SPOILS ALERT!

General Opinion

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! I first saw this book through shorts and book recommendations videos, and everyone praised it, so I decided to buy it at the bookstore to see if the hype was worth it, AND IT WAS!

Characters

My favorite character was Inej. Besides being a brave, talented, and strong fighter, her dynamic with Kaz was one of my favorite things to read about. Even though they didn't engage in any intimidating activity, the tension between them was so thick yet so soft at the same time. I love how Kaz grows softer towards Inej as the story progresses, it got me giggling and kicking my feet.

I also love how each main 6 characters has their moment to shine, they all contribute significantly to the story. Moreover, the group relationship was so hilarious yet beautiful at the same time. Each individual is so different yet they all went through a hardship, drawing them closer, and it was sweet seeing how they become a chaotic family at the end. I especially am fond of Nina and Inej's friendship, two very different girls who surprisingly get along well with each other.

Plot

Furthermore, I enjoy the plot of the story. It felt like so much tension and the stakes were so high that you felt the 6 crows might fail. But with Kaz being a brilliant mastermind, they always emerge victorious. I come to love Kaz's mastermind, it's as if he always thinks 10 steps ahead. Fantasy is the main focus

Six of Crows was somehow realistic in my opinion, where there is no black or white, but a shade of grey in all the characters. None of the characters are pure, they either were killing people with no mercy, or scheming and manipulating, yet their backstories were so well executed that you have no choice but to vibe with them, not forgetting that they are committing crimes. Especially Kaz, a morally grey character that can be cruel and unforgiving, but can also have a subtle tenderness towards his close one.

The ending was truly epic, I felt my heart stop when Nina took a does of parem to save the crew, a dangerous drug that could likely kill her, showing her bravery and the bond she have with the team. The ending also reveal what a horrible father Van Eck was, not only did he double crossed Kaz, but he also disowned Wylan because he couldn't write, not only that, Van Eck was ready to kill Wylan! At that point I want to walk through the page and strangled Van Eck himself.

Relationship

I also enjoy the romance in the book, even though it's not a significant thing, all couples stand out for me. I already talked about Kaz and Inej, so I'll talk about Nina and Matthias, Jesper and Wylan. I love how Nina and Matthias were pretending to hate each other at the start of the book, but that didn't mask how much they care and love each other. I was feeling somehow emotional when Nina flew into Matthias's arms after he rescued her from the cell near the end of the book, it was a wholesome sight to see. Jesper and Wylan really entertained me, with Jesper continuously making jokes, trying to annoy Wylan, yet Wylan only blushed in return was adorable to see.

Conclusion

Overall, Six of Crows is a 5-star read for me. The plot is original, and interesting, with high tension and stakes. It had amazing, unique characters and the world-building was just vivid. I felt I could imagine Ketterdam in my head, picturing myself living there and probably suffering in the city :). I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good YA fantasy read.
