Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am.

They don’t know what I’m capable of… - Goodreads

Review:

Characters and Plot

I immensely enjoy the Perfect Son by the same author so I decided to pick up her most popular work, The Housemaid. However, I was somewhat disappointed. The book atmosphere was incredibly underwhelming, the only suspense feel I got was when Mille was being introduced to her new living quarter, after that it was somewhat boring. The twist was also predictable, I thought it wasn't going to be like that because it would be so obvious, but it was, I was crestfallen.

I didn't like Mille most of the book, I only like her at the end of the book, not gonna lie, she slay hard. But most of the book she seems selfish, and even though she thought that Nina had a mental disorder, Millie still go after Nina's husband. Yes, Andrew was flirting with her, and he is a horrible husband for that, but Millie acting like she was innocent the whole time pisses me off. Especially when she think that she can treats Andrew better than Nina could... LIKE HELLO??? Why are you comparing yourself to a woman who you barely know anything about and probably had a mental illness...

Nina was my favorite character, she is the moment, the icon and the queen. Girl was out there scheming, not to lie, her arc was the only surprising about the book. I did enjoy how fast pace and easy it was to get through the book though.

Conclusion

The Housemaid in my opinion is overrated, there are way better thrillers out there with smarter characters, better twists and more suspense. However, if you are looking for a fast paced book or just to get into thriller for the first time, maybe check this out.
