Now, I’ve been in the military for twelve years and have the scars—and missing body parts—to prove it. As a hardened soldier who’s spent his fair share of time out in the Wastes—the dangerous place where monsters roam free—I didn’t think anything could surprise me anymore.

But then circumstance forced me together with a big, annoying purple monster who’s arrogant and bossy and pushes all my buttons in the worst—and best—ways. I need his help, and I hate needing anyone’s help. But the more time I spend with him, the more I realise that maybe there’s more from him that I need. And that he might need things from me too.

But I’m still a soldier. I still have responsibilities. It doesn’t matter how I feel about Edin, because we can’t be together. It’s too dangerous.

That doesn’t stop me wanting him, though.

Review:

Characters and Plot

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! It was so much fun to read; the romance was adorable, the characters were impeccable, and the plot was even more high-stakes compared to the first book. First of all, I adore Edin, he is so cute, sweet, funny, and outgoing, and I also loved his tail :)) Who knew that I could fall in love with a big purple monster with a tail. I love Hunter, the self-development was peak. He was a jerk in the beginning, but that didn't make me hate him; I just found his bad temper to be hilarious and loved the dynamic that it created between him and Edin.

I also loved his friendship with Charlie and how he is constantly worry for his best friend, in most romance books, the MC would just forget altogether that their best friend is in danger and gooning over their love interest, which I hate, but in here, Hunter knows he was attracted to Edin, but that didn't stop him from worrying over Charlie and making rescuing Charlie his main goal.

We got more lore in this book, which I LOVE, as we didn't get much in the first book because it was more focused on the romance (not complaining, Wyn and Danny had my whole heart). Turns out there is a monster run fighting pit... really didn't expect that.

Edin and Hunter's romance was so sweet and funny, it melts my heart when they learn more about each other, checking on to make sure the other is okay, the way Hunter learn that monsters aren't the problem but the military he worked with, the realization, and how he didn't turn a blind eye to the problem. The sex scenes in here were even sexier compared to the first book, like damn, was it good.

Wyn and Danny are side characters in this book, and I LOVE THEM AS EVER. They are even sweeter now because their relationship has finally blossomed. It was immaculate seeing Hunter acting shocked when he found out how sweet Wyn is towards Danny, the big, scary Soul Eater is just a softie. â€‹

Conclusion

I did lowkey prefer the romance in Soul Eater, but this was just addicting and amazing, I was so sad when it ended. I am so, so excited to finish the rest of the series and meet all the couples. I'm so in love with the Mounstrous series and Lily Mayne's writing.
