The Kaul family is one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. It's the only place in the world that produces rare magical jade, which grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities.
The Green Bone clans of honorable jade-wearing warriors once protected the island from foreign invasion--but nowadays, in a bustling post-war metropolis full of fast cars and foreign money, Green Bone families like the Kauls are primarily involved in commerce, construction, and the everyday upkeep of the districts under their protection.
When the simmering tension between the Kauls and their greatest rivals erupts into open violence in the streets, the outcome of this clan war will determine the fate of all Green Bones and the future of Kekon itself.

Review:
Characters and Plot
I LOVE THE POLITICAL ASPECT OF THIS BOOK!!! Truly one of the most intricate and complex political moves I ever seen in a book, it was being written so well, people in here are actually scheming and making actual business decision that are logical, and that political is a headache and not just fun and games. The plot was interesting, the author had balance out really well between the political and the actions in this book and it was amazing seeing different character's pov.

The characters were incredibly well written, and all of them actually had distinct voice instead of everyone sounding the same, which is a common problem in multiple POVs books. My fav is definitely Shae, she is so smart, and it's so refreshing to read about a cool, calculating and cunning FMC instead of the "badass, impulsive, snarky" FMC we see in so many fantasy, which isn't a problem, but I just wanted something new and an actual smart FMC. I love the way she handle her family's business affair and also be there for her brother Hilo. Shae starts of by not wanting anything to do with the family business, which is fair, but after a significant incident, Shae had no choice but to be the Weather Man, and she an incredible one at that.

Hilo is something... I see a lot of people loving him online but... personally, I don't like him. He was too rash, impulsive, and agressive, which is what he supposed to represent, but I don't like him. He is well written though, his character is consistent, and he makes it clear what he stands for. I didn't like how he react to Anden at the end, and hopefully for some character development in the second book.

LAN, MY KING LAN. My guy was too nice to be the Pillar, was he smart, yes, but he was too damn nice and sort of let Hilo and Doru push him over. I just feel so bad for him at time. Ayt Mada is certainly an interesting antagonist, and I found myself loving her. She is ambitious, extremely intelligent, strong and ruthless, and a TOTAL ICON. I love to see more of her in the second book.

Conclusion
If you like political fantasy with a balance actions and amazing characters, Jade City is for you. It is unique, incredibly well written, and all the character are so complex.
