On the island of Kekon, the Kaul family is locked in a violent feud for control of the capital city and the supply of magical jade that endows trained Green Bone warriors with supernatural powers they alone have possessed for hundreds of years.

Beyond Kekon's borders, war is brewing. Powerful foreign governments and mercenary criminal kingpins alike turn their eyes on the island nation. Jade, Kekon's most prized resource, could make them rich - or give them the edge they'd need to topple their rivals.

Faced with threats on all sides, the Kaul family is forced to form new and dangerous alliances, confront enemies in the darkest streets and the tallest office towers, and put honor aside in order to do whatever it takes to ensure their own survival - and that of all the Green Bones of Kekon.

Review:

Characters and Plot

I LOVE SHAE CHARACTER IN THIS BOOK!!! She slay so hard, she is out here carrying the clan on her back, making political arrangement, business arrangement, keeping Hilo from killing and pissing people of, contacting Anden and makes sure he's doing well. Girl is working 24/7 and apparently need some sleep.

Shae's duel with Mada was SO BADASS, sure, it wasn't the outcome I wanted but it just makes Shae's character more compelling. And am I the only one who like Ayt Mada, she is a really interesting character, incredibly intelligent and ruthless.

Hilo in this book.... PISSES ME OFF SO BAD. Especially what he did regarding Niko, if you know he know, he can't seemed to respect people's own choices and think that if you are green, you need to hold responsibility as Green Bone and do what is required, regardless of what you want. Which I get it, his character stay consistent and he valued Green Bone traditions the most out of the family. Still hated him though :))

Now, I know that I said I love the political aspect of this series, but it drags on a little bit in this book, or that just me in my semi reading slump. My brain was dying trying to catch up with the 10 new business deals, the 5 political deals with the Mountain, the foreign war that somehow had something to do with the trade war...

Um, Wen doing something with Espenia like right now I'm not even sure what her jobs are. Also Anden business with the bossess.. I wanted to cry when Shae makes a new deal. I appreciate that the author dedicated to make sure the political aspect in this world is well thought out and intricate, but my reading slump want to groan :)

The ending was something... I am really curious how the Kauls family will deal with their newfound situation, especially Hilo. Also a little note, if the side characters star to get their own chapters, watch out.

Conclusion

I'm going to take a little break from this series and read some lighter novels to get out of this reading slump, then I will be fully prepare to read the finale of Jade City. I am so excited, and hope that maybe... I'll tolerate Hilo more.
