Characters and Plot

This was mid. There were 6 POVs, and I only liked two of them: Emilio and Oliver. They are not annoying and not boring. I actually enjoy their romantic storyline together. I found it very cute and soft; I genuinely want to read the next book so I can witness them get together.

Now, the other POVS were underwhelming. I am ok with Masika, I think she had some good moments, but they were very forgettable. Wren and August are genuinely so boring, the typical good girl x bad boy with no other personalities. Authors really need to stop using the soul bond trope thing for their romantic couple because it's so obvious that they use it to make readers automatically root for the couple. Well, it doesn't work like that, you need to BUILD CHEMISTRY in your characters... I DON'T CARE IF THEY ARE SOUL BONDED IF THEIR CHEMISTRY IS JUST NOT THERE.

Irene is so annoying; she is described as cold and heartless, yet she just appeared corny and cringeworthy. Why is she smirking all the time, like.... why? I don't care about her. I don't like how she treats others. Was the villain twist predictable, yes it was... I guess it's the moment I met the character. There was one other twist that lowkey did get me, that was good, I'll give it that.

The trials were fun to read about, and there were stakes. The plot was fast-paced but was somehow boring at times...? Probably because of the boring POVs, the thing here, the characters here don't have a unique voice that is them alone. They don't have clear characterization, and they seem more like different variants of each other.

I had to say, it was a somewhat enjoyable time, and I am going to read the final book when it comes out to see where Emilio and Oliver's storylines are going and how the story will end. If you are new to fantasy, then I think this book is a good start, but if you are not a fan of POVS that sound the same, I suggest skipping.
