In the wake of a crushing defeat, Tisaanah and Maxatarius have been ripped apart. Tisaanah is desperate to rescue Max from his imprisonment, even as her people’s fight for freedom grows more treacherous. But within the walls of Ilyzath, Max’s mind is a shadow of what it once was… leaving his past a mystery and his future at the mercy of Ara’s new, ruthless queen.

Meanwhile, in the Fey lands, Aefe has been dragged back into this world by a king who vows to destroy civilizations in her name. But even as her past returns to claim her, her former self is a stranger.

Tisaanah, Max, and Aefe are thrust into the center of a cataclysm between the human and Fey worlds. The unique magic they share is key to either winning the war, or ending it.

But that power demands sacrifice. Tisaanah may be forced to choose between love and duty. Max cannot forge his future without confronting his past. And Aefe must decide between reclaiming who she was, or embracing who she has become.

The choices they make will either reshape this world forever…or end it.. Goodreads

Spoil Review:

Characters and Plot

This was an epic finale to this wonderful trilogy. The book took place a couple of months after the events of book 2, and we got more insight into Max's family in this book, with his only family member left, Brayan, making an appearance. I'm not a huge fan of Brayan, but I do find his relationship with Max interesting. I lowkey forgot he exists :))

Nura... I HATE HER. Now, does it make sense why she turned out the way she did in this book? Yes, but do I sympathize with her, not really; she was privileged, yet she was under heavy expectations, but privilege no less, and so absolute, no remorse for the horror she inflicted. The same goes for Caduan; he was infuriating in this book, but I actually liked him in the last book. His exasperated personality was endearing, but why do I feel like he was a completely different person in this book? I get it, it's been 500 years since his appearance from the second book, and he has gone through a bunch of trauma, but it's hard to sympathize when we didn't see those changes on page. Caduan was willing to wipe out an ENTIRE RACE indiscriminately, ma guy was committing genocide and called it justice.

Aefe, well, I still didn't find her interesting. Again, I didn't connect much with her story, but her journey was definitely the most traumatic one. I didn't like how she said that Tisaanah and Max betrayed her... girl, what... You literally killed Max's family when they didn't even do anything.

The plot was addicting, it was high stakes, filled with pain, trauma, and also a dose of amazing romance.

Sammerin LIVE!!! A funny and lovable side character survives... I love Max and Tisaanah's ending; they deserved it after all the horrendous things they went through.

Conclusion

I absolutely adore this series; it was gripping, amazing characters, amazing plot, amazing romance, the butterfly was magic, which was a fun touch. If you love epic fantasy with a good romance subplot, I highly encourage you pick up this series; it balances the romance and plot out so well.
