The most feared assassin in her country is Celaena Sardothien. Despite being employed by the vicious and influential Assassin's Guild, Celaena is uncompromising and only has faith in Sam, another hired killer.

Celaena finds herself working against his intentions and doubting her own loyalty when her cunning master, Arobynn Hamel, sends her on missions that take her from isolated islands to hazardous deserts. She meets both friends and foes along the way and learns that she has much deeper feelings for Sam than friendship. However, Celaena faces unthinkable punishment for disobeying Arobynn's demands, and Sam is also in danger because he is beside her.

If they want to get out of Arobynn's grasp, they will have to sacrifice everything, and if they don't succeed, they will lose not just their opportunity at freedom but also their lives...

SPOILS ALERT!

General Opinion

I love this book, to me, it is the perfect book to introduce readers to our main protagonist: Celaena Sardothien, and the 5-star Throne of Glass series. This book is filled with intricate world-building, in-depth characters, and some sprinkles of fiery romance, and they all work so well together!

Characters

I am obsessed with the character of Celaena, she is Adarlan strongest assassin, which is so badass and cool. Being a skilled killer, you would think she has a cold and hostile personality. But Celaena is funny, sassy, and can be a kind person as well. Arobynn sends Sam and Celaena to Skull's Bay believing they are meant to make Captain Rolfe pay for the lives his men took. In reality, Arobynn has sent them to begin a slave trade agreement with Rolfe. When Celaena heard of this slave trade agreement, she was disgusted, and instead decided to rescue the slaves along with her companion: Sam. Who she thought she hated, until now... â€‹

Further into the story, Celaena also helps a girl named Yrene to fulfill her dream of becoming a healer in Southern Fenharrow by giving her more than enough money to make the trip. Even though Celaena is a deadly assassin who won't hesitate to take other's lives, she still holds some compassion in her heart, which will be the core of the future story of the series.

Not only that, Celaena's romance with Sam is one of my favorite things, and even though Celaena would have a future love interest, her romance with Sam remains my favorite. Celaena always thought she hated him, and that he hated her, what she didn't know was that Sam had been in love with her for all these years. Through the book, you would get to see their bond grow and how beautiful a couple they were.

Plot

This book follows Celaena's journey before she ends up in Endovier, which I won't get fully into because it would be long. But first was her mission to rescue the slave, after that, as punishment, Arobynn sent her to the Red Dessert to train with the Mute Master and earn his acceptance. Where there would be a hell of a journey for her. When Celaena gets back, she and Sam want to escape the clutch from Arobynn, but it isn't so easy for them. And after 3 months of finally getting to live together, tragedy struck...

I won't want to reveal the tragedy at the end of the book, but it's nothing pretty, and you would probably still be in pain even if you finish the whole series and realize how different it could be. When you get to the ending, just blame it all on Arobynn being evil and sadistic to soothe your sorrow =)).

Conclusion

I would recommend this book to any fantasy and romance lovers out there, there is a strong female MC, a cute romance, action pact with great world-building.
