Twenty years ago, monsters rose on earth and began a new age of civilization.

Humans live in military-controlled, cramped and old cities along the coasts, with the rest of the country being known as the Wastes. A lawless, isolated and dangerous place, filling with monsters that have claimed the land for their own.

And there is Wyn the Soul Eater.

He appears every three years, making his way across the country and slaughtering humans randomly, sucking them dry until they’re nothing but dry vessel.

I’ve only been in the military for six months, but now I’m part of a unit tasked with trying to stop and capture him. And when I’m the only soldier out of hundreds that the Soul Eater leaves alive, I realise that… maybe that isn't such a bad thing.

But what is it? What could a twenty-three-year-old guy from the south, a pathetic existence, have possibly done to capture the attention of a death monster with horns, blackened fingertips, and a face hidden in the dark depths of his hood?

Review:

Characters and Plot

DON'T LET THE COVER DECEIVE YOU, BECAUSE THE SOUL EATER TURNED OUT TO BE THE BIGGEST SOFTIE EVER. I was smiling the whole time while reading this. The romantic relationship between Danny and Wyn is so wholesome, cute, and fluffy. Who knew a big, scary monster could be so compassionate and kind? Wyn is up there as my top book boyfriends because OH MY LORD, the way he was so soft, protective, and caring towards Danny melted my heart. Wyn is taking care of Danny after the military captured him. Like, are you sure the Soul Eater isn't a caretaker in disguise?

I love the Grumpy x Sunshine trope in this book, with Wyn loving to keep on this scary, grumpy front to scare the humans but would practically worship the ground that Danny walk on, how he instantly became softer when Danny is around. Danny and Wyn getting to know each other from the journey through the Wastes was so cute, how Danny at first was scare of Wyn, but then find out that Wyn is really kind and nice towards him, leading to Danny developing a crush on Wyn was the cutest thing ever. Wyn pretending to be emotionless and cold, but the "huff of amusement" couldn't disguise his fondness for how adorable and bubbly Danny is.

My favorite Wyn moment was when he was insecure that Danny might be disgusted by his monster face, like the irony. This big, scary monster, the nightmare of every other humans out there is insecure that his partner might hate him for how he look, I don't care what anyone said, Wyn is the CUTEST.

The spice scenes were on point, they were at the right place at the right time, they did get a big excessive in the middle, but that is properly I reread the book way too many times, and I am also not a huge spice reader.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a fluffy M/M Monster romance, then PLS pick up the Soul Eater, it had everything you needed, and I guarantee that you will be giggling and kicking your feet the entire time. I am super excited to read the rest of the Monstrous series, as the Soul Eater is only the first one. I think I might adopt a monster after this :))
