Damen and his new master, Prince Laurent, must journey to the border to stop a deadly scheme because their countries are on the verge of war and they must trade the intrigues of the palace for the expansive strength of the battlefield.
Damen, who is compelled to conceal his identity, finds himself drawn more and more to the seductive and dangerous Laurent. However, as the two men's nascent trust grows, the truth about their respective pasts stands ready to deliver the ultimate death blow...
General Opinion
I love this book, it was lighter than the last book, and had more romance, which I ate up. Probably gonna be my favorite book in the trilogy.
Characters
Remember when I said I didn't like Laurent yet, well, guess what, he's my favorite character now. So, we get to see more of Laurent in this book, and well, he devours whenever he appears on screen. My guy is the combination of sassy, savage, deadly, beautiful, elegant, graceful, and rude, I mean, what's not to love? Laurent has one of the best insults, makes me wonder how he only got punched twice from what he said, he's so mean and I love it :)). One of my favorite lines from his: "My uncle is discriminating. Not like Jord, who'll take a middle-aged man's sloppy seconds and treat it like it's worth something." Like, bro, chill, he was so nasty here and it's amazing, feel bad for the person he's saying it too, but still...

Moreover, Damen and Laurent's progressing relationship is one of the best things. The tension devoured, and it was so slow burn that I wish I could just go through the page and make them kiss, cause Oh my god!!! I find myself grinning whenever they interact, and when Damen is secretly staring at Laurent he forgets everything around him.

I need Lauren't POV, I need to know what is going on in that clever and vicious mind. Even though we didn't had Laurent's POV, I can still somehow know what's going on in their head, how he's slowly falling for Damen and denying it, but is secretly whip for Damen. There will be 1 spicy scene, so a heads up.
Plot
I enjoyed the plot in the second book way more than the 1st one, there were some moments where I was confused about where they were, but that's normal when I read a fiction adventure book. It was predictable though, like we can when someone will be the betrayer, and who will die. Yet there are some surprises, some of the deaths in here hit me a little too hard.
What I love about this book is how Damen starts to understand the life of a slave more and becomes more disturbed about it, when at the beginning, Damen himself has slaves and uses them very comfortably. It emphasizes on empathy and power. I believe that Damen will ban slavery if he ever gets back his throne.
Conclusion
If you DNF the trilogy after the 1st book, you are missing out, because it got so much better afterward!!
