Hunt Athalar and Bryce Quinlan are attempting to return to normal; despite having saved Crescent City, they just want a chance to unwind after all of the recent turmoil in their life. Reduce your speed. Determine what the future will bring.
So far, Bryce and Hunt are alone since the Asteri have fulfilled their promise. However, the threat posed by the rulers is increasing as the rebels erode the Asteri's authority. The decision between standing up for what's right and remaining silent while others are persecuted becomes evident as Bryce, Hunt, and their friends are drawn into the rebels' schemes. They've also never been particularly good at keeping quiet.
General Opinion
I enjoy this book, the plot is great as usual, though I would say it did not live up to the first book, but it's still a great one nevertheless.

Characters
I love Bryce as usual, she's still a baddie, very brave, and would not let any insult get to her. If you insult her, she's gonna insult you 10 times worse. Ruhn is amazing as usual, especially with the reveal of his secret power, which I thought was cool, and his relationship with Day was interesting, love to see how they progress.

However, I thought Hunt lacked a bit of depth in this book, I loved him in the last one, but he kind of fell off here. In this book, his only role is "Bryce's mate", her lover, basically centered around her. He doesn't have a developed relationship with another character, maybe besides Tharion, though they know each other before. The whole purpose in this book was being Bryce's love interest, protecting her, doing whatever she said, and well, it was getting tiring. I love Hunt and Bryce in the last book, but in this book, I found myself rolling my eyes whenever they said they love each other so much, or calling each other "mate" a thousand times.

I found myself loving Ithan more than Hunt, Ithan story just seem so depressing that it was interesting. And why can't Ithan and Bryce talk out, I swear, they were friends for 5 years, yet whenever they tried to say something to each other, a monster attack. LIKE WHY???

Baxian stole my heart, a misunderstood character, how can I not fall in love with him? I'm excited to see his role unfold in the next book.

Plot
There were a lot of things happening in this book, with multiple POV at once. But it wasn't that confusing, it was fun to read, and the last scene made me curious about how the conflict with the Asteri will be resolved. Again, Sarah J. Maas does have a thing in writing extremely hateable villains, normally in some book, I would feel empathy for the villains, maybe even like them. But that never happens when I read SJM books, the Asteri were just pure evil, that there is nothing about them to empathize.

Conclusion
Overall, I enjoy this book, it wasn't as good as the last one, but I still devour it. I'm looking forward to the last book in the trilogy.
