The price of Prince Oak's treachery is being paid. He must use cunning and charm to survive while imprisoned in the frigid north and subject to the whims of a terrifying new queen. Oak will have to choose between trying to win back the trust of the girl he has always loved and staying faithful to Elfhame and giving up the means to overthrow her rule—even if it means ending Wren as well—given that High King Cardan and High Queen Jude will stop at nothing to reclaim their stolen heir.

Neither Oak's cunning nor his wit will be sufficient to save everyone he loves from the impending new battle and the betrayal that lurks around every corner. The only thing left to decide is who he will doom.

General Opinion

This book quality was similar to the last one, decent, nothing special, but fun, nonetheless.

Characters

Instead of Wren's POV, this time, we get to follow Oak POV instead in third person narrative. Kinda take me by surprise since all the previous books I read by Holly Black were in first person, but not a big deal. Oak got a lot of character development in this book, from a manipulative boy who constantly hides behind a charming mask, trying to make everyone love him. This time, he questioned people's love for him, realizing that none of them, besides his family, love him for who he truly is. So that mask slipped a bit, but not entirely, as his deadly charm is what made Oak, Oak. Oak is the more clever version of Locke, who I still hate till this day :)).

Wren became more interesting, I like her in the Prisoner's Throne than I like her in the Stolen Heir. What I love about her is that she would do anything for the ones she loves, even if it meant dooming an entire kingdom.

Jude and Cardan make an appearance in this book, LET'S GOOOO! They are as fierce and perfect as usual, even after 8 years. The couple's goal here.

Plot

The plot is intriguing. A bit slow, but not as slow as the last book. The final battle was good, and we got a nice peak to Jude and Cardan next adventure. So exciting. I don't want to spoil too much, I will avoid spoiling in my reviews now. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Conclusion

Overall, I believe you should read the Stolen Heir and the Prisoner's Throne duology, they are a fun and decent read. Especially if you want to see what happen after the Folk of the Air series.
